Join Cinema Detroit for two of silent comedian Buster Keaton’s best feature films, OUR HOSPITALITY (1923) and STEAMBOAT BILL, JR (1928).

In OUR HOSPITALITY, widely considered to be Keaton’s first masterpiece, Buster finds himself in deep trouble when he falls in love with the daughter of a rival family. The rules of hospitality protect him from harm — as long as he can stay in their house.

In STEAMBOAT BILL, JR., Buster plays a foppish college boy who reunites with his brusque father and helps him save his riverboat business. Both films feature some of the most hilarious gags and amazing stunts you’ll ever see.

Accompanist Jeff Rapsis is a composer, historian, and performer who specializes in creating live musical scores for silent film screenings. He improvises as he goes, creating a totally immersive experience, unlike any other. Cinema Detroit regulars may know him from earlier presentations of WHEN KNIGHTHOOD WAS IN FLOWER and short films by Mabel Normand (part of the Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers series).
